Purpose

This blog is to document my Academic Service Learning requirement for my Conservation & Environmental Science class, CES210: Introduction to Conservation and Environmental Science at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The goal of ASL is to allow students to experience real world applications of the class that they are in.  It is also an excellent way to volunteer in the community and meet new people.  If a student volunteers and documents 75 hours of their time with an approved organization or course of action, they can earn a certificate in Student Service Record.

The department of Conservation & Environmental Science at UWM has the goal of teaching students the value of their environment and what they can do to help protect and maintain it.  The coursework for those interested in a major or minor in CES is a mixture of biology, geology, geography, and chemistry; and it can be tailored to the specific environmental interests of the individual.

CES210 is a course offered this spring semester (January 22-May 9, 2013) and is taught by Dr. Mai Phillips, the CES Program Coordinator.  The goal of the course is to learn about the basics of conservation and the role of humans in the environment.
