For my project I
plan on individually making a blog that will discuss the Adopt-a-Beach program
and our responsibilities with the volunteering.
I plan on including pictures from the outings and results of our trips
to the beach. The blog will be located
at http://adoptabeachbayviewbeach.blogspot.com/.
For presentation of the project, I
plan on writing up a final entry that talks about what I enjoyed doing while
volunteering, what I didn’t enjoy, what I learned, and the impact that a
project like Adopt-a-Beach can have on not only a community, but on an
ecosystem.
Some of the larger points from class
that I would like to tie in are from Chapter 8 and Chapter 13 of our book. Chapter 8 contained information on
Environmental Health and Toxicology. I
think that this ties in with the class and that chapter, as Lake Michigan is
obviously a huge player in water sources for Southeastern Wisconsin. Part of what we’re doing is picking up trash
that may be polluting that water, and we’re also looking at the microbial
content that could result in illness if ingested. I plan on emphasizing how important it is
that we make efforts to keep our water sources clean. Going in hand-in-hand with this is Chapter
13’s subject matter, Restoration Ecology.
We will be living out this restoration, and I am hoping that the impact
it makes in my life will be translatable to my classmates. I want to show that we can help reverse some
of the damage that we as humans have done to our environment, and that not all
hope is lost.
